HARNESS OUR NATURAL RESOURCES FOR SUSTAINABLEBLE DEVELOPMENT- PREZ AKUFFO ADDO

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa- Akuffo Addo has officially opened the two-day program of the Graphic Stakeholders Dialogue on Natural Resources today at the Kempinski Hotel, Accra.

The President commended the Ministry of Lands & Natural Resources & the Graphic Communications for putting together this dialogue which is aimed at forging a common path for the holistic management and utilization of our natural resources.

He noted that, without Natural Resources, life itself is impossible and hoped that the outcome of these discussions would be fruitful to the development of the country.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor in his remarks lauded the various agencies under the ministry for their conscious efforts in helping to create a sustainable and enabling environment.

He also touched on several measures put in place to ensure the effective, efficient and sustainable management of the country’s natural resources, and more significantly, implementing policies aimed at retaining the value chain of these resources in-country.

Some participating agencies include; the Lands Commission, Forestry Commission, Minerals Commission, Geological Survey & PMMC.

 

A session on land was moderated by Dr Wordsworth Odame Larbi, former Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, on the theme “Harnessing our Lands Responsibly for Our Sustainable Collective Good” and the panellists included Mr James Dadson(ES of LC), Surv. Edwin Addo Tawiah (former director, SMD), Surv. Kakraba Ampeh(GHIS) & Madam Nana Ama Yirrah(Founder, COLANDEF)

The panellists briefed participants on the land conference held last year and the outcomes of the program.

Topics treated at the session included: encroachment on state lands, land administration, and mapping -emerging trends & mapping and land use planning

 

The Lands Commission was represented by the two Deputy Executive Secretaries, the Chairperson of the Greater Accra Lands Commission, Directors of the Various Divisions, the Head of the M& E Unit and some Management members.
